Gary King - Analysis and Insights
The Nuffield Politics Research Centre (NPRC), Oxford, is delighted to host Gary King, the Albert J. Weatherhead III University Professor from Harvard University.
In a two-part day Professor King will offer final year DPhil students in politics and early career researchers the opportunity to ask questions about succeeding in academia. He will talk about a book he is currently writing (with Casey Petroff), tentatively called The Social Science of Science. He will also discuss themes from a course he is planning, “The Hidden Curriculum”, as well as taking questions on the most important lessons he’s learned throughout his illustrious career.
Professor King will present some of his new research – How American politics ensures electoral accountability in Congress.
‘Although many challenges to American democracy remain, this core feature remains durable.’ Explains Professor King.
This is based on joint work with Danny Ebanks and Jonathan N. Katz.
Professor Jane Green, Director of the NPRC, said:
‘It’s a delight to be able to welcome Gary to Oxford again. I know our students will benefit hugely from his experience and advice. We are also anticipating his seminar as it promises to be a fascinating insight into American politics, and at such an important time, going into the year of elections!’
Professor King's visit will take place on Friday 24 November 2023.
